Jamshedpur, April 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jamshedpur staged a strong protest on Monday against a controversial statement made by Jharkhand government minister Hafizul Hasan Ansari, in which he claimed that Shariat is bigger than the Indian Constitution. The BJP condemned the remark as an attack on the nation’s unity and democratic values.

Led by Jamshedpur BJP President Sudhanshu Ojha, hundreds of BJP workers, including MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Das Sahu, former state president Dineshanand Goswami, and state spokesperson Amarpreet Singh Kale, marched to the District Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor, demanding strict action against the minister.

Speaking to the media, Amarpreet Singh Kale sharply criticized the statement, calling it “a direct attack on the unity, integrity, and constitutional framework of the country.”

He added, “Such remarks are not only unfortunate but also instigate societal division and threaten the democratic fabric of our nation. A person holding a constitutional position who disrespects the Constitution is unfit to continue in office.”

The BJP’s memorandum termed the statement unconstitutional and inflammatory, urging immediate disciplinary action. The protest witnessed the participation of senior party leaders, along with active members of the BJP Mahila Morcha, Yuva Morcha, various Mandal presidents, and hundreds of workers.
