New Delhi, April 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh as its candidate for the upcoming mayoral election in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), scheduled for April 25.

Singh, who currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the MCD, has previously held positions such as Mayor of North MCD, Chairman of the Ward Committee in the Civil Lines Zone, and councillor for the Mukherjee Nagar Ward 13.

The BJP has also declared Jai Bhagwan Yadav as its nominee for the post of Deputy Mayor.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has decided to stay out of this year’s mayoral race. The party’s Delhi unit convenor, Saurabh Bharadwaj, said that the BJP should take full charge of governance in the capital, including forming its own standing committee and assuming leadership in the MCD without attributing any future shortcomings to opposition hurdles.
With nominations now open, the BJP appears poised to take control of Delhi’s municipal leadership, while AAP takes a back seat, sharpening the political divide ahead of the polls.
