Warangal, April 24: In a significant development, 14 members of the banned CPI (Maoist), including two senior Area Committee Members (ACMs), surrendered to Telangana police in Warangal on Thursday.

The surrender took place before Inspector General of Police (IGP) Multi Zone-I, S. Chandrashekhar Reddy, at the Warangal Police Commissionerate.

Reddy presented the surrendered Naxals before the media and announced that each one was provided with ₹25,000 as immediate financial assistance to support their reintegration into society.

With this latest surrender, the total number of Maoists who have laid down arms in Telangana this year has reached 250, according to the IGP. These include members from various ranks, even a state committee member. He further noted that 12 Maoists have been arrested between January and April 2025.

Police officials attributed the growing number of surrenders to the positive impact of ‘Operation Cheyutha’—a special initiative aimed at providing welfare and rehabilitation for surrendered Maoists, alongside broader development programmes for tribal (Adivasi) communities.

Officials say this outreach has encouraged many extremists, particularly from neighboring Chhattisgarh, to renounce violence and rejoin mainstream society.
