Ranchi, May 6: As part of a nationwide effort to strengthen disaster readiness, Ranchi will conduct a large-scale mock civil security drill on Tuesday, 7 May, in the Doranda area. The exercise is scheduled from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and aims to simulate emergency scenarios in a controlled environment under the Government of India’s Operation Abhyas.
Sirens Are Just a Test: No Cause for Alarm
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate-cum-District Disaster Officer Manjunath Bhajantri, and DIG-cum-Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Sinha held a press conference today to provide key information regarding the exercise.
Authorities have urged residents not to panic when sirens sound during the drill. The exercise is a pre-planned safety measure, not an actual emergency.
Residents are requested to switch off household lights, vehicle lights, and generators during the drill to simulate blackout conditions commonly associated with emergency situations. The move is designed to make the drill as realistic as possible and to test the community’s preparedness.

Alternative Traffic Routes in Place
To minimise disruption, alternative traffic routes will be operational in the Doranda area throughout the three-hour drill. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with traffic personnel.
Community Awareness at the Core
District officials emphasised that the exercise is not only a test of institutional response but also a crucial public awareness campaign. Video messages and outreach initiatives will accompany the drill to educate citizens on how to act during real-life disasters.
The district administration is calling on residents to spread the word among neighbours and family members to ensure a calm, informed response during the drill.
Operation Abhyas, initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, is being conducted across various districts in India to assess and enhance emergency preparedness.
