New Delhi, May 10: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced today that a ceasefire between India and Pakistan has been agreed upon following high-level military talks.
In a press briefing, Misri stated that at 3:35 PM, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart. During the conversation, both sides agreed to cease all forms of military engagement — on land, air, and sea — starting 5:00 PM IST today.
Instructions have been issued to enforce this decision, and the two DGMOs are scheduled to speak again on May 12 at noon.

“Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. The Directors General of Military Operations will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours,” he said.
Ceasefire Reached After U.S.-Brokered Negotiations
The agreement follows prolonged negotiations mediated by the United States. Both nations expressed their consent to the ceasefire earlier today after intense diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the ceasefire came into force this evening.
U.S. President Donald Trump responded to the development with a tweet, welcoming the ceasefire and acknowledging the role of American diplomacy in facilitating the dialogue.
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump posted on X.

The ceasefire comes at a time when cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan had sharply escalated. Drone strikes, artillery shelling, and military deployments along the border had raised regional and international concerns, prompting calls for immediate de-escalation.
