New Delhi, Dec 9: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is set to conduct its elections on December 21, with the election results anticipated to be announced on the same day following the vote count.

The election of the new WFI governing body has been made possible after the Supreme Court recently overturned the stay imposed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The entirety of the electoral process will comply with the specifications and pertinent clauses outlined in the officially ratified constitution of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and the Model Guidelines of 2011, as issued by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

The Wrestling Federation of India was suspended by United World Wrestling in August of this year because elections were not held on time.

The elections were postponed due to protests by prominent Indian wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia, over claims of sexual harassment made against then-WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and instances involving state units.

WFI’s current management is being overseen by an ad hoc committee that was established by the Indian Olympic Association (IOC).
