Jamshedpur, May 22:  Tata Steel today officially inaugurated Phase II of its Kalinganagar plant expansion in Odisha, increasing its crude steel production capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 8 MTPA.

The Rs 27,000 crore investment represents a significant milestone in Tata Steel’s long-term growth strategy, reinforcing Odisha as the company’s largest hub for industrial development.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the cutting-edge facility in Jajpur district and was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with senior ministers, local leaders, and Tata Steel CEO & MD T. V. Narendran.

Speaking at the event, Narendran highlighted the spirit of collaboration that powered the project: “Kalinganagar is more than a manufacturing site—it reflects our shared vision for a stronger, self-reliant India.”

The enhanced facility will produce advanced high-strength steels for critical sectors including automotive, defence, infrastructure, shipbuilding, and power—contributing significantly to the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

Highlights of the expansion include India’s largest blast furnace (5,870 m³), a new pellet plant, coke plant, and a state-of-the-art cold rolling mill. All units incorporate eco-friendly and energy-efficient technologies, underscoring Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
