Ranchi, May 28: The fragile security system at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, has come under scrutiny once again after two motorcycles belonging to junior doctors were stolen from the same spot within a span of just 96 hours.

On Tuesday evening, a Royal Enfield Classic 350 belonging to an intern was stolen from the designated parking area near the RIMS kitchen. Earlier, on May 23, a TVS Apache owned by a final-year student was lifted from the exact same location.

An FIR was lodged at Bariatu police station following the first incident on May 23. However, before any significant police action could be initiated, thieves struck again, highlighting the poor internal security of the campus.

Junior doctors expressed growing concerns over safety, stating that neither the RIMS administration nor Ranchi Police has taken meaningful steps to ensure security. The recent thefts follow closely on the heels of an incident where a junior lady doctor was physically assaulted inside the hospital corridor, further intensifying their insecurity.

JDA Threatens Agitation for Security Reforms

In response to the repeated breaches, the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) is preparing for an agitation demanding foolproof security on campus. The association has voiced its frustration over the administration’s inaction and the inefficiency of the current security setup.

JDA office bearers questioned the capability of home guards currently deployed for campus security. They emphasized the urgent need to consider the deployment of a more competent security agency to ensure the safety of doctors and students.

Calls to Replace Home Guards Grow Louder

JDA Vice-President Dr. Abhishek Hansdak said a joint delegation—including President Dr. Ankit Kumar, Executive President Dr. Abhishek Laguri, Secretary Dr. Om Prakash, and Vice-Presidents Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Archana Kumari, Dr. Kumari Kirti, and Dr. Ansu Soni—has repeatedly raised the demand to replace home guards, but no action has been taken.

Currently, home guards from Chaibasa and Chatra are posted on the RIMS campus. “The syndicate of anti-social elements is well aware of the weak security system at RIMS, making it an easy target for crime. Despite repeated requests and even after the assault on a junior lady doctor, the administration has failed to act against the inefficiency of the home guards,” the JDA stated.
