Singapore, May 29: India’s top men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, progressed to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open with a hard-fought win over Indonesia’s seventh-seeded duo, Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

The match, lasting one hour and 14 minutes, saw the Indian pair bounce back from a game down to triumph 19-21, 21-16, 21-19.

Satwik and Chirag will now face the second-seeded Malaysian team of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin. The Indian duo, returning after recent fitness setbacks, showcased resilience and sharp coordination to pull off the victory.

In singles, PV Sindhu bowed out in the second round after a three-game defeat to world No. 5 Chen Yufei. Despite a spirited second game, Sindhu couldn’t maintain momentum in the decider and fell short 9-21, 21-18, 16-21.

India also faced disappointment in the men’s singles as H S Prannoy crashed out following a straight-game loss to France’s Christo Popov, going down 16-21, 14-21 in the pre-quarterfinals.
