THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Melbourne, June 2: Glenn Maxwell has officially stepped away from One Day Internationals, ending a distinguished 13-year journey in the 50-over format.

The Australian all-rounder made the decision to focus on the shorter format of the game, citing the physical demands of ODIs and the lingering impact of a severe leg injury that nearly ended his career.

Maxwell revealed that the toll of the format had begun to affect his performance in the field, something he particularly felt during the recent Champions Trophy.

With the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka on the horizon, he will now concentrate on T20 Internationals, the Big Bash League, and other global franchise commitments.

Throughout his ODI career, Maxwell was known for his explosive batting and useful off-spin. He featured in 149 matches, scoring 3,990 runs at an average of 33.81, including four centuries and a career-best 201 not out. With the ball, he claimed 77 wickets, with best figures of 4/40.

“Match-winning Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has retired from one-day international cricket to focus on Australia’s campaign to win the T20 World Cup next year. Maxwell has made the decision to prioritise his preparation for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, the Big Bash League and his other global commitments,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.
