SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, June 5: The Department of Mathematics & Computing at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is set to organize a five-day short-term training program on Six Sigma Green Belts for professionals. The program will take place from June 23 to June 27 at the Executive Development Centre of the institute.

Six Sigma is a powerful, data-driven methodology focused on improving business processes through statistical analysis. The training aims to equip senior executives, middle management professionals, engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders of transactional processes from various industries with essential skills to enhance quality and efficiency.

Target Audience and Program Coordination

A senior official from IIT ISM stated that the program is also highly relevant for government administrators involved with mining operations, scientists, and research scholars. The training will be coordinated by Prof. Subhashis Chatterjee and Prof. S. Kundu from the Department of Mathematics & Computing.

The official further explained that Six Sigma’s primary goal is to achieve near-perfection in quality by reducing defects to fewer than 3 to 4 per million opportunities. This approach not only eliminates errors but also boosts productivity, increases customer satisfaction, improves cost efficiency, and enhances employee engagement.

Program Structure and Certification

The training will go beyond traditional lectures, incorporating activity-based learning, problem-solving sessions, case studies, and interactive discussions. Special emphasis will be placed on applying Six Sigma tools in real-world industrial scenarios.

Participants who fulfill the program requirements—such as scoring at least 60% in the final assessment and submitting a project summary—will receive a Six Sigma Green Belt certification, validating their expertise in this quality management methodology.
