Ahmedabad, June 20: Nearly a week after the tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad, the bodies of 202 victims have been returned to their families, with DNA confirmation completed for 220 individuals, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel announced on Friday via X.
Among the 220 victims whose identities have been verified, 151 were Indian citizens, while 34 were British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. Nine of the deceased were identified as non-passengers.
The process of returning the bodies included transporting 15 by air and 187 by ambulance. Officials confirmed that the remaining bodies would be released soon.

The fatal crash, which occurred on June 12, involved a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed into a hostel complex at BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad’s Meghani Nagar locality just moments after takeoff.
Of the 242 people on board, 241 lost their lives—including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
