Jamshedpur, June 25: The alarming trend of wild elephant fatalities in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district continues, with yet another pachyderm found dead under suspicious circumstances late Tuesday night.

The incident occurred in Hevan village, located in the Nimdih police station area. Early Wednesday morning, local farmers stumbled upon the lifeless elephant while heading to their fields.

The discovery triggered immediate alerts to village representatives, police, and forest officials. Responding promptly, a forest department team arrived at the scene and initiated a detailed investigation.

As of now, the cause of death remains undetermined. However, veterinary experts have been summoned to perform a post-mortem examination and ascertain the exact reasons behind the animal’s demise.

Forest officials revealed that a group of three elephants had been roaming the area, and the deceased was part of that herd. Surveillance has been increased on the remaining two elephants to ensure their well-being.

This marks the second elephant death in the region within a span of just three weeks. On June 5, a solitary tusker, having strayed from its herd, was found dead in Aamdabeda village.

The recurring nature of these deaths has sparked serious concerns about the efficacy of wildlife monitoring and conservation efforts in the region.

Environmentalists and local residents are demanding accountability and stronger preventive measures.

The forest department has assured that no negligence will be tolerated, and all angles, including natural causes, human interference, and poisoning, are being thoroughly examined.

The unexplained deaths of these endangered giants underscore a growing environmental crisis—one that calls for urgent intervention and reinforced protection protocols in vulnerable forest corridors.
