Ranchi’s Manisha Tirkey reaches final round of national badminton tourney

Ranchi, July 12: Jharkhand’s leading woman shuttler, Manisha Rani Tirkey from Ranchi, has qualified for the final round of the women’s singles event at the Yonex Sunrise All India Major Ranking Badminton Tournament, currently underway in Bhubaneswar.

She is the only woman player from Jharkhand to make it to the final round.

According to information received by the Badminton Association of Ranchi District (BARD), only the top 64 women players from across the country have advanced to the final round of the tournament.

In her opening match of the final round, Manisha put up a spirited fight but lost to Sneha Lamba in straight sets, 11-21, 21-23. Despite dominating the second set and being in a strong position to win, she narrowly missed out with a 21-23 loss.

Manisha Rani Tirkey currently holds the top rank among women badminton players in Jharkhand and is the reigning state champion in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.
