Jamshedpur, July 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for Jharkhand, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations across various parts of the state over the next three days.

The weather activity is being driven by a well-marked low-pressure system and a highly active monsoon trough.

According to the IMD bulletin:

On July 15, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over north-western and adjoining north-central Jharkhand.

Additionally, heavy rainfall may occur over parts of north-eastern and adjoining central regions. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are also likely at isolated places across the state.

On July 16, the northwestern and north-central districts are again likely to witness heavy to very heavy showers.

Northern and adjoining central areas could also experience heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms and lightning remain a threat in isolated areas.

On July 17, thunderstorms and lightning are expected to continue in parts of the state, although the intensity of rainfall may reduce.

Active Weather Systems

The IMD has attributed the enhanced monsoon activity to a well-marked low-pressure area currently situated over southeast Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh.

As of July 14 morning, the system was slowly moving northwestward and is expected to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours.

Adding to this, the monsoon trough at the mean sea level stretches from Bikaner in Rajasthan through northeast Rajasthan, northwest Madhya Pradesh, Siddhi, Ranchi, and the low-pressure centre over southeast Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, creating a strong convergence zone for rainfall.

Local administrative authorities have urged residents, especially in vulnerable and flood-prone areas, to remain alert and take necessary precautions as weather conditions may lead to waterlogging, traffic disruption, and damage to infrastructure.

Meanwhile, keeping in view IMD’s heavy rain, all schools in Jamshedpur remained closed today.
