PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, July 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30-40 Kmph) at isolated places across Jharkhand on July 19.

The alert follows the continued influence of a depression system active over northwestern India.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, the depression currently lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh, near latitude 26.4°N and longitude 78.0°E — close to Morena and about 30 km northwest of Gwalior.

It is moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 17 Kmph and is expected to gradually weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over the next 24 hours as it travels through northwest Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan.

The monsoon trough continues to extend from Bikaner, Sikar, through the depression center, and further southeast across parts of Jharkhand, including Sidhi, Daltonganj, and Purulia, before stretching into the Bay of Bengal. This alignment continues to support active monsoon conditions in the region.

While light to moderate rain is likely to persist in the coming days, heavy rainfall is specifically forecasted for isolated areas in southern and central Jharkhand from July 23.

People are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take precautions against localized flooding and lightning.
