Stronger surveillance and surprise checks at border posts

Gupta emphasised the importance of sharing real-time information on extremist movements and suspicious activities across borders. He called on district superintendents of police to conduct regular surprise inspections at check posts prone to smuggling of narcotics, opium, doda, burnt sugar, illegal liquor, and other banned substances.

According to Gupta, better coordination between neighbouring police stations is critical for disrupting the supply chain of drugs and illegal goods along inter-state routes.

Coordinated response to cybercrime and fake SIM usage

With cybercrime cases rising sharply, Gupta urged all states to improve data sharing and launch joint efforts to crack down on fraudulent SIM card usage. He said controlling the spread of digital crime will require an integrated and prompt response.

Time-bound campaign against Naxalites in border areas

Jharkhand Police proposed a time-bound, phased campaign to clear Naxal influence in the border regions, especially in sensitive zones like the Saranda forest along the Odisha border. The strategy includes joint operations, intelligence sharing, and targeted action plans against Maoist groups operating in the region.

Officers from all states agreed to strengthen intelligence networks and launch synchronised operations to accelerate progress against Naxal elements.

Presentations on police efforts and new law training

The meeting included several presentations from Jharkhand officials:

  • Inspector General of Police, Special Branch, Prabhat Kumar, detailed the current anti-Naxal operations.
  • Inspector General, CID, Aseem Vikrant Minz, presented updates on cybercrime and narcotics cases.
  • Inspector General, Training, A. Vijayalakshmi, outlined efforts to implement new criminal laws and training modules for officers.

Jharkhand team representation

Along with DGP Anurag Gupta, the Jharkhand team included Prabhat Kumar (IG, Special Branch), Aseem Vikrant Minz (IG, CID), A. Vijayalakshmi (IG, Training), and Michaelraj S. (IG, Campaign), among other senior officials.

The ERPCC meeting concluded with consensus on regular coordination between border district police, enhanced intelligence operations, and joint action plans to tackle Naxalism and cross-border crime.
