Jamshedpur, July 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of heavy rainfall in the north-eastern parts of Jharkhand today (July 30).

In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds up to 30-40 Kmph are likely to occur at isolated places across the state.

According to the IMD, similar weather conditions will continue on July 31, with thunderstorms and lightning activity expected over several parts of the state.

Meteorological analysis indicates that a trough line extends from the northeast Arabian Sea to south Bangladesh, passing through Gujarat, a cyclonic circulation over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas, Jharkhand, north Chhattisgarh, and Gangetic West Bengal at around 3.1 Km above mean sea level.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Sri Ganganagar, Delhi, the center of the low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh, Satna, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur, Digha, and extends east-southeastward into the northeast Bay of Bengal.

An upper air cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh has now shifted to Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas between 5.8 and 7.6 Km above mean sea level.

Jharkhand has so far recorded 748.6 mm of rainfall against a normal of 489.2 mm for this period, translating into a 53 % surplus.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the excess precipitation has been driven by active monsoon conditions, multiple low-pressure systems, and the persistence of a monsoon trough passing through central and eastern India.

While this surplus has improved water availability and eased agricultural activities, it has also led to incidents of waterlogging and localized flooding in parts of the state.
