Dhanbad, Aug 1: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar called upon graduates of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to apply their technical knowledge in maintaining environmental balance, especially in the mining and energy sectors.
Addressing the 45th convocation of IIT-ISM as the guest of honour on Friday, the Governor emphasized that technology is not just a tool for development but also a vital means for environmental management.
“Now you are about to begin a new journey, and the real test starts here. New challenges lie ahead, and you must overcome them with the knowledge, discipline, and leadership skills you have acquired at IIT-ISM,” Gangwar said.

Focus on Nation-Building, Not Just Personal Growth
The Governor advised students not to limit their technical expertise to personal success but to use it for the development of the state and the nation.
“IIT-ISM is the backbone of India’s mining and energy sector and has provided technical guidance to the country for decades. Jharkhand is rich in natural and mineral resources, so ensure their sustainable and inclusive use,” he added.
Union Education Minister Highlights Role of Techies in India’s Future
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who also addressed the gathering, said that the nation has high expectations from its technical workforce to tackle future challenges.
“India aims to become a developed nation by 2047, and achieving this goal will require a significant contribution from technologists,” Pradhan stated. He urged students to explore entrepreneurship and focus on startups as a path to innovation and growth.
The Minister further remarked that life’s real examination begins now, and graduates must take bold steps toward nation-building.

Jharkhand’s Technical and Higher Education Minister, Sudivya Kumar, reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving technical education infrastructure and opportunities.
Earlier, IIT-ISM Board of Governors Chairperson Prof. Prem Devrat welcomed the dignitaries, while Director Prof. Sukumar Mishra presented the institute’s achievements over its 99-year journey.
