Dhanbad, August 14: A special Aadhaar registration camp was organized at Dhanbad jail on Thursday, enabling 50 prison inmates to obtain their Aadhaar cards.

Dhanbad District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary Mayank Tushar Topno informed that the camp was held under the auspices of the Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (JLSA) and on the directive of Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-DLSA Chairman Virendra Kumar Tiwari.

The initiative came after several inmates submitted applications requesting Aadhaar enrollment inside the jail premises.

With support from the jail administration and Aadhaar Card Centre Manager Pradeep Ekghara, the cards of 50 inmates were successfully generated. Judge Tiwari stated that the initiative would now allow prisoners to obtain identification directly through such camps in jail.

Toppo added that possession of an Aadhaar card would expedite the release process for inmates. “Some prisoners have already been granted bail but remained in jail due to the absence of Aadhaar. With the court’s direction, such inmates will now be released immediately,” he said.

The camp’s success was credited to the efforts of Divisional Jail officials M.K. Gupta, Arun Kumar, Saurav Sarkar, Rajesh Singh, and Vishal Singh.
