Jamshedpur, Sept 3: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph) likely at isolated places across Jharkhand on September 3, 4, and 5.

A low-pressure area persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify within the next 24 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards, crossing Odisha thereafter.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently passes through Bikaner, Jaipur, Datia, Sidhi, Jharsuguda, Puri, and the low-pressure centre over the Bay of Bengal, keeping monsoon activity normal over Jharkhand.

In the last 24 hours, most places in the state witnessed light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, while heavy showers were reported at a few locations. Japla (Palamu) recorded the highest rainfall at 78.4 mm, whereas Godda registered the highest maximum temperature at 36.7°C.

The IMD has advised residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and heavy rain spells.

Meanwhile, the state has so far recorded surplus rain of 25 per cent. Against a normal of 815 mm, Jharkhand has so far received 1023 mm of rain.
