Kathmandu, Sept 8: A Gen-Z revolution has erupted across various parts of Kathmandu against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government.

Anger among the youth in Nepal over the ban on social media platforms such as Facebook, X, and YouTube has reached its peak, leading to massive protests on the streets of the capital today.

Thousands of young men and women took to the streets, creating chaos, and reports indicate that some protesters entered the Nepalese Parliament premises.

Police responded by firing tear gas shells and deploying water cannons. Several protesters were reportedly injured in the firing and have been admitted to hospitals for treatment.

The protests follow a notice issued by Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on September 4, which stated that the platforms were blocked for failing to complete mandatory registration.

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority was directed to prevent access to these platforms through internet service providers.

According to a report by The Kathmandu Post, the directive is based on a Supreme Court order and the Social Media Use Management Directive 2080, which requires all online platforms to register mandatorily.
