Dhanbad, Sept 9: Eminent physician Dr. NK Singh of Jharkhand has been elected Vice-President of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) for the 2026–2029 session. In an online election held on Monday night, Dr. Singh defeated five rivals to secure the post in the country’s largest professional body dedicated to diabetes care.

This marks the first time in RSSDI’s 53-year history that a doctor from Jharkhand-Bihar has been elected to the vice-presidential position. With this victory, Dr. Singh also becomes eligible to contest for the post of president in 2029.

About RSSDI

Founded in 1972, RSSDI is Asia’s largest organization for diabetes healthcare professionals and researchers. Recognized by the International Diabetes Federation, it serves as India’s national body for diabetes research and training.

The society focuses on promoting clinical research, training practitioners through its Advanced Certificate Course in Diabetology, and creating public awareness about prevention and management of diabetes.

Recognition of Commitment

RSSDI Jharkhand secretary Dr. Ajay Patwari described Dr. Singh’s election as a “historic victory,” calling it a recognition of his tireless dedication to advancing diabetes care in India.

“This is a moment of immense pride for Jharkhand, as for the first time the state contributes leadership at the highest level of the world’s largest diabetes society,” he said.

A practicing diabetologist for over two decades, Dr. Singh has been widely respected for his ethical, evidence-based, and patient-centered approach to diabetes care in Jharkhand.
