Daltonganj, September 13: Ex-servicemen have urged the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) to incorporate their plight of not getting disability pension in the Veer Pariwar Sahayata Yojna, for which a dedicated cell for the ex-servicemen has been launched on Saturday, the day of the third National Lok Adalat of the year 2025, by the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, Tarlok Singh Chauhan.

A couple of ex-servicemen who are practising advocates and a few more working as para-legal volunteers said, “Normal pension we get, but our disability pension is unavailable.”

One ex-serviceman who acts as a para-legal volunteer said, “I became disabled on my left side”.

Asked as to how to get the disability pension, to which these ex-servicemen practising advocates said, “Armed Forces Tribunal take the final call. This Tribunal is in Kolkata and Delhi. There, we don’t have our access and approach.”

These ex-servicemen practising advocates wanted ‘some kind of office of the Armed Forces Tribunal in Jharkhand too.”

Court sources said the Veer Pariwar Sahayata Yojna has to be clear as to whether it can offer any help in matters of ex-servicemen who are having defence issues, since issues like disability pension appear to be a prime concern for ex-servicemen who have suffered any disability during serving the country as a soldier.

Court sources said the Veer Pariwar Sahayata Yojna should not be a redressal body of mundane issues of the ex-servicemen like land issues, property division issues, family inheritance issues, education issues, health issues or any other issue. It should also play a major role in securing rightful demand or claim of a defence issue, like disability pension etc.
