CEC Gyanesh Kumar reviews Bihar poll preparedness ahead of Assembly election

Patna, Oct 4: With the Bihar Assembly election dates expected to be announced soon, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday reviewed the state’s poll preparedness in Patna, leading a high-level Election Commission delegation.

The team included Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi, along with Bihar Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Gunjyal and other senior officials.

During the visit, the Commission held extensive discussions with representatives of all 12 recognised political parties in Bihar — including the BJP, JD(U), RJD, and Congress — to assess ground-level election arrangements and gather their feedback.

The ECI shared details of the interaction on X, stating that the meeting was chaired by the CEC in the presence of the two Election Commissioners and senior state officials.

The review comes soon after the Election Commission of India (ECI) completed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s electoral rolls.

The final voter list, published on September 30, records 7.42 crore electors, following the removal of 65 lakh ineligible voters from the draft rolls. The number of voters had earlier stood at 7.89 crore as of June 24.

According to the ECI, around 3.66 lakh ineligible voters were deleted during the revision process, while 21.53 lakh new electors were added through Form 6 applications.

The SIR exercise, conducted under Article 326 of the Constitution, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment that ‘no eligible voter to be left out, and no ineligible person to be included in the Electoral rolls’

The district administration reported that in Patna district alone, over 1.63 lakh new voters have been added across 14 assembly constituencies, reflecting a significant update to the electorate ahead of the upcoming polls.
