Dhanbad, Oct 12: Over Rs 6.45 lakh was collected as fines from ticketless passengers during a special checking campaign conducted on various mail and express trains under the Dhanbad Rail Division of the East Central Railway (ECR) zone on Saturday.

According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr DCM) Md Iqbal, a total of 1,160 passengers were caught travelling without tickets, and fines amounting to Rs 6,45,600 were collected from them.

“Along with ticketless passengers, unauthorised travellers and passengers carrying heavy luggage without booking were also fined,” said Sr DCM Md Iqbal. He added that all were released after being given a strict warning not to travel without valid tickets in the future.

The official further advised people not to enter railway platforms without proper tickets and to ensure luggage is booked before travel. He added that ticket-checking drives in passenger, mail, and express trains will continue at various stations under the Dhanbad Rail Division.
