Dhanbad, Oct 21: A violent incident was reported at Dubey Nursing Home in Jamua block of Giridih district after attendants of a patient attacked the facility, injuring several health staff members. However, the doctor, identified as Dr. Rajesh Dubey, managed to escape unhurt. The injured staff were admitted to private hospitals in Giridih and Dhanbad for treatment.

The attack took place on the afternoon of Sunday, October 19. According to reports, a long queue of patients had formed in the OPD when Dr. Dubey attended to an emergency case involving a critically ill two-month-old infant, temporarily overlooking other waiting patients.

Attack Following Heated Argument

One of the patients, whose queue number was 57, became agitated over the delay. After engaging in a heated argument with the nursing home staff, he reportedly called in around 60–70 outsiders, who then vandalised the premises and assaulted the staff. The medical staff tried to defend themselves during the attack.

Police from Jamua station arrived promptly and brought the situation under control. An FIR was filed by both parties, and the matter is now under investigation.

IMA Takes Strong Stand Against the Attack

The Giridih chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) condemned the assault on the nursing home and demanded strict action against the attackers. A delegation comprising IMA patron Dr. S.K. Dukania, president Dr. Riyaz Ahmed, vice-president Dr. R.R. Barnwal, secretary Dr. Ritesh Sinha, and Crisis Management Head Dr. Md Azad visited Jamua on Monday to meet the victim, Dr. Dubey, and review the situation.

The team also met Jamua Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajendra Prasad and the officer-in-charge of Jamua police station, urging them to ensure prompt action against the culprits. DSP Prasad assured the delegation that necessary steps would be taken following a detailed inquiry.

Doctors Need Peaceful Conditions to Work, Says IMA

IMA secretary Dr. Ritesh Sinha said the incident highlights the growing insecurity among medical professionals. “Treatment and commotion cannot go together. Doctors can provide quality care only in a peaceful atmosphere,” he stated.

He further explained that Dr. Dubey had followed medical protocol by prioritising the treatment of a critical infant. “It is normal practice for doctors to attend emergency cases first. Other patients in the queue understood the situation after seeing the child’s condition,” Dr. Sinha said, adding that such incidents create fear among doctors, making it difficult for them to discharge their duties effectively.
