Kolkata, Oct 24: The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed that investigations into four cases involving BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari be handed over to a joint Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising the CBI and West Bengal Police.
Justice Jay Sengupta also lifted the protection previously granted to Adhikari in 2022, which had prevented any FIR from being registered against him without the court’s permission. The court passed judgments in three of the cases between Adhikari and the state government.

Additionally, Justice Sengupta ordered the quashing of FIRs filed against Adhikari, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, in 15 separate cases registered at various times across the state.

Earlier, in December 2022, Justice Rajasekhar Mantha had extended protection to Adhikari, directing that no further FIRs be lodged against him without approval from the High Court.
Adhikari had argued that multiple FIRs were being filed across different police stations to obstruct him from performing his duties as a public representative, allegedly at the behest of the ruling state government.
