Jamshedpur, Oct 28: The divine fervour of Chhath Puja, the great festival of faith, purity, and gratitude, illuminated Jamshedpur as hundreds of devotees gathered at the RP Patel School Ground Ghat in Jugsalai to offer prayers to the setting sun. Known for its immaculate arrangements and deeply spiritual atmosphere, the ghat once again emerged as a radiant centre of devotion, culture, and community spirit.

A 25-Year Tradition of Faith and Service

Established 25 years ago by the Upadhyay family, the Jugsalai ghat has grown into one of the city’s most revered and well-organised Chhath Puja venues.

Under the dedicated supervision of social workers Akhilesh, Vinod, Pramod, and Manoj Upadhyay, the event is celebrated each year with profound devotion and meticulous planning. The four brothers personally oversee every aspect — from lighting and cleanliness to safety and comfort for devotees — ensuring the sacred rituals are performed with discipline and reverence.

Leaders Join in the Sacred Celebration

The inauguration ceremony was marked by the traditional breaking of a coconut, symbolising purity and auspicious beginnings. The ritual was performed by MLA Mangal Kalindi, along with Sardar Shailendra Singh, Mahendra Mishra, Manik Malik, Kaleshwar Pandey, Ramashankar Sharma, and Akhilesh Upadhyay.

Extending his heartfelt wishes, MLA Mangal Kalindi praised the organisers for maintaining the sanctity and continuity of this grand tradition for over two decades. He commended the Upadhyay family’s dedication in transforming the ghat into a symbol of collective faith and harmony.

Sardar Shailendra Singh, in his address, reflected on the spiritual depth of Chhath Puja, saying that “India is among the few countries where people worship both the setting and the rising sun.” He prayed to Chhathi Maiya for peace, prosperity, and happiness in every household.

An Evening of Light, Faith, and Unity

As dusk settled, the RP Patel School Ground Ghat glowed with the light of hundreds of diyas, accompanied by the soft hum of devotional songs and the soothing fragrance of incense.

Families stood in waist-deep water, offering arghya (prayers) to the sun, expressing gratitude for life, sustenance, and nature’s blessings. The presence of community leaders, dignitaries, and volunteers added to the collective spirit that has made the Jugsalai Chhath celebrations a cherished tradition in Jamshedpur year after year.
