All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Championship in Chaibasa from Nov 5

 

Ranchi, Oct 30: The All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Championship is set to take place in Chaibasa, West Singhbhum, from November 5 to 9 at Khirwal Banquet Hall.

Sharing the details, West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA) secretary Basant Khandelwal said that around 300 players have registered for the tournament, including 170 from Jharkhand, 100 from West Bengal, and 15 from Bihar and other states. Of these, about 150 are internationally rated players.

International Master (IM) Aryan Varshney from Haryana, with a FIDE rating of 2496, has been given the top seed in the championship.

The event carries a total prize pool of ₹3 lakh. The winner will receive ₹61,000 along with a trophy, while the runner-up and third-place finishers will be awarded ₹41,000 and ₹25,000, respectively. Khandelwal added that the top 30 players will also receive cash prizes.

“To encourage wider participation, we have also decided to award cash prizes to unrated players,” Khandelwal stated.

WSDCA president Mukund Rungta said the championship will provide an excellent opportunity for players from Jharkhand to compete against rated players from across the country and improve their rankings.
