Patna, Nov 6: The first phase of polling for the Bihar Assembly elections concluded, with voters in 121 constituencies across 18 districts casting their ballots to elect among 1,314 candidates contesting for 243 seats in the state.
Bihar witnessed an overall voter turnout of 60.13% till 5 pm in the first phase of Assembly elections, as per data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday.

Begusarai topped the turnout chart with 67.32%, closely followed by Samastipur (66.65%), Madhepura (65.74%), and Gopalganj (64.96%). Districts such as Muzaffarpur (64.63%), Saharsa (62.65%), and Lakhisarai (62.76%) also reported impressive participation, reflecting strong voter enthusiasm.
In contrast, urban constituencies like Bankipur recorded the lowest turnout at 40%, while Sheikhpura (52.36%), Raghunathpur (51.18%), and Bhojpur (53.24%) also reported relatively moderate figures. Patna district, however, showed steady improvement with a turnout of 55.02%.
Key seats such as Raghopur (64.01%), Mokama (62.16%), Phulwari (62.14%), Tarapur (58.33%), and Chapra (56.32%) reflected mixed voting trends.

This crucial phase will determine the political fate of several prominent leaders including RJD’s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, BJP’s Samrat Choudhary and Mangal Pandey, and JD(U)’s Shravan Kumar and Vijay Kumar Choudhary, as 121 constituencies across 18 districts went to polls. Tej Pratap Yadav, who now heads his own political outfit, is also contesting in this phase.
