Dhanbad hosts ‘Run for Jharkhand’ to celebrate state’s 25th Foundation Day

Dhanbad, Nov 11: To mark Jharkhand’s 25th Foundation Day on November 15, the Dhanbad district administration on Monday organised a ‘Run for Jharkhand’ event to commemorate the state’s Silver Jubilee and the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan flagged off the marathon from the Golf Ground, which passed through City Centre, Puja Talkies, DRM Chowki Court More, and Randhir Verma Chowk, before concluding at the starting point. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, athletes, and citizens.

Sports events and winners

In addition to the run, various sports events including archery, boxing, football, and badminton were held at the Golf Ground to mark the occasion.

In the girls’ category race, Ruby Kumari secured the first position, followed by Tanu Kumari and Sakshi Kumari in second and third place respectively.

In the boys’ category race, Rakesh Mahato clinched the top spot, while Vijay Kumar and Motilal Mahato finished second and third.

The winners were felicitated by the Deputy Commissioner with cash prizes of ₹3,000, ₹2,000, and ₹1,000, along with trophies.

Promoting fitness and state pride

Addressing the participants, DC Aditya Ranjan said that the primary aim of the programme was to promote health, fitness, and sportsmanship among the youth while enhancing pride in the state.

“The message of ‘Fit Jharkhand – Healthy Jharkhand’ must reach every citizen through sports and tourism. Our goal is to strengthen community participation and foster social unity,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner described Jharkhand’s 25th year as a symbol of pride, determination, and development, adding that the ‘Run for Jharkhand’ embodies the spirit of belongingness, unity, and progress.

He also informed that the Silver Jubilee celebrations on November 15 will be organised on a grand scale with active participation from residents across the district.

Officials present at the event

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including City SP Ritvik Srivastava, Divisional Forest Officer Vikas Paliwal, Municipal Commissioner Raviraj Sharma, ADM (Supply) Jiaul Ansari, District Panchayati Raj Officer Mukesh Bauri, and District Sports Officer Umesh Lohra.

The administration termed the event a celebration of unity and youth energy, symbolising Jharkhand’s progress over the past 25 years.
