Home Ministry entrusts NIA with Red Fort blast probe

New Delhi, Nov 11: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially been tasked with investigating Monday’s deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed 12 people and injured several others.

The Ministry of Home Affairs transferred the case to the NIA after an initial review, treating the explosion as a possible terror act. The agency will now take over the probe from the Delhi Police to examine the explosives used and potential links to terrorist networks.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah held two rounds of high-level security meetings on Tuesday to assess the situation and coordinate the response. The first meeting began at 11 am at his residence, followed by another session at 3 pm at Kartavya Bhawan, the office of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Both meetings were attended by top security and intelligence officials, including Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, NIA Director General Sadanand Vasant Date, and Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat also joined the discussions virtually.

The explosion occurred around 7 pm on Monday near the Red Fort Metro Station, when a Hyundai i20 car was blown apart at a traffic signal between Gates 1 and 4. In the aftermath, security has been intensified across the national capital, particularly at airports, railway stations, and other public places, as central and state agencies work in coordination to trace those responsible.
