Jharkhand News: Experts discuss high-strength concrete reinforcement at IIT ISM

 

Dhanbad, Nov 14: A two-day workshop on “Advances in Application of High-Strength Reinforcement Bars in Construction of Concrete Structures” began at IIT ISM Dhanbad.

Officials said the event, organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT (ISM) in collaboration with industry partners, aims to improve understanding of high-strength reinforcement technologies and strengthen industry–academia cooperation in structural engineering.

Importance of industry–academia synergy highlighted

Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, IIT (ISM), in his inaugural address, said this workshop is the second in the series conducted with industry collaboration, showing the growing importance of close ties between academia and industry.

He stressed the increasing relevance of high-strength reinforcement bars in ensuring structural resilience, especially in challenging conditions. He congratulated the organisers for choosing a timely and meaningful theme.

Experts underline need to upgrade engineering practices

Earlier, Prof. Pranesh Roy, Coordinator of the workshop, welcomed the expert participants and highlighted the importance of upgrading engineering practices in line with new high-strength materials. He said such workshops bridge professional gaps and create opportunities for knowledge sharing.

Prof. Srinivas Pasupuleti, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, outlined the department’s academic and research initiatives and its focus on modernising engineering education.

Nazmul Hussain, Senior Technologist, Product Application Group, Tata Steel, stressed the significance of new-generation reinforcement bars in improving structural performance and safety.

Prof. Keka Ojha, Dean (Continuing Education), said theoretical knowledge becomes meaningful when applied in real-world situations. She praised industry partners and data-driven stakeholders for their support and urged participants to use their learning to contribute to national infrastructure development.

Industry supporters felicitated

On the first day of the workshop, Ashish Bansal, Business Manager, Shriram Sales Dhanbad, was felicitated for the support extended in organising the event.

Prof. Rahul Bhartiya, Co-Coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging faculty members, experts, and industry representatives.
