Jamshedpur, Nov 28: A 10-year-old boy was robbed of his gold locket by three miscreants in Bhuiyandih’s Kalyan Nagar on Thursday evening, triggering panic among residents and raising concerns over the lack of police patrolling in the area.
According to reports, Sarita Devi of A Block had gone to the Kalyan Nagar Chowk with her son, Upendra, to buy household items.
While returning, the boy was walking nearly 100 metres ahead of his mother when three youths suddenly emerged from behind the Shiv Temple.

They overpowered the child, covered his mouth and snatched the gold locket from his neck.

By the time Sarita Devi reached the spot, the terrified child had started crying, and the three accused fled through the narrow lanes of the locality.
Hearing the commotion, local residents gathered and immediately informed the police.
Residents allege that irregular police patrolling has emboldened anti-social elements, resulting in a rise in such crimes.
They also pointed out that the movement of outsiders in the locality has increased sharply, with some youths allegedly consuming banned substances and engaging in the sale of alcohol, cannabis and brown sugar.
Just a month ago, a similar snatching incident took place in C Block, where a woman’s earrings were forcibly taken.

Locals say that an area known for its peace for nearly five decades is now turning into a crime hotspot.
