Jamshedpur, Nov 29: In a joint operation, the RPF Flying Squad of Chakradharpur Division and the GRP Tatanagar arrested a major ganja smuggler at Tatanagar railway station today.
The team recovered 17 Kg of illegal ganja from his possession. The accused has been identified as Uday Kumar alias Mantu, a resident of Hariharganj in Palamu district of Jharkhand.
According to officials, police received a tip-off that a large consignment of ganja was being transported from Jarapada Railway station in Odisha to Tatanagar.

Based on the input, RPF and GRP teams launched a special surveillance drive across the station premises.
During the operation, a suspicious man was intercepted and questioned. A search of his bag led to the recovery of 17 Kg of ganja.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had brought the consignment from Odisha and planned to transport it by bus to Daltonganj.
Police said the operation was conducted under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Rail Jamshedpur.

Several officers and personnel from both RPF and GRP were part of the team. Interrogation of the accused is underway as police try to trace the intended recipient in Daltonganj and identify others involved in the smuggling network.
Authorities added that the crackdown on illegal narcotics will continue.
