New Delhi, Dec 19: Both Houses of Parliament were brought to a close for the session on Friday as sustained Opposition protests over the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill continued to disrupt proceedings.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die by Speaker Om Birla after the House played Vande Mataram, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who returned from a three-nation tour a day earlier, present in the chamber.

The Rajya Sabha was also adjourned for the session shortly after it reconvened at 11 am, following the tabling of official statements and reports.

While announcing the adjournment, Chairman and Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan expressed displeasure over the conduct of some members during the minister’s reply a day earlier, citing protests and the tearing of papers as behaviour unworthy of the Upper House. He urged members to introspect and maintain parliamentary decorum.

At the same time, Radhakrishnan described the session as productive overall and voiced hope for more constructive debates in future sittings.

Outside Parliament, Opposition parties continued to oppose the passage of the VB-G RAM G Bill, staging a joint protest, while Trinamool Congress MPs carried on their demonstration on the steps leading to the House.
