THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK
Daltonganj, December 20: Vice Chancellor of the Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh on Saturday outlined the university’s vision for the coming year 2026, asking mediapersons and other stakeholders to evaluate his performance here since March 3, 2025, the day he joined here as its VC.
It’s upto the mediapersons and other stakeholders to allot him marks, but “one thing I would like to share with the mediapersons is that the situation prior to my joining here as VC is totally changed now, agreeing that for some reasons pace of change and development is slow, which will be given an impetus in 2026,” he said.
He didn’t elaborate on why the progress or development is slow, but it’s common knowledge here that the university is facing financial obstacles more than ever in its 16 years of existence.

Focus on Exams, Backlogs and Academic Discipline
His vision is a down-to-earth approach and not any promise of the moon when he said “Sessions are late and so are the examinations.”
“From next year onwards there would be a maximum of 2 backlog exams as the university can’t afford to hold backlog exams as old as 2018 or 2022 etc. A student must clear his academic backlog within two attempts,” added the VC.
University’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Dr Vinita Dixit here buttressing the viewpoint of the VC said, “Our time and energy go into holding backlog exams and exams. For how long will such a backlog exam drag on?” The VC was impressed by this lady officer’s stand.
“There would be no Home centre exam barring a few exceptions like St Xavier’s College Mahuadanr, where there is no government degree college in parallel”, reminded the VC.
Here, Dean of Student Welfare (DSW) Dr S K Pandey chipping in said, “We can do a swapping of exam centre with Panki and Tarhassi.” Here, the VC expressed his concern for the distance between the two colleges in the larger interest of the students.

Professional Courses, Teaching Support and Outsourcing
Justifying the university’s decision to converge all professional courses running in 3 constituent colleges in Daltonganj in the Professional Studies Institute, the VC said, “There is a storm in a teacup, little knowing that students of the professional courses are too happy to find a competitive environs here in the Institute where faculties are using interactive panels.”
“Here, students of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) will be interacting with the students of the Master of Business Administration (MBA), which will be an extra exposure to the juniors, the advantages of which are numerous for each side. I don’t know why there are murmurings of it in the negativity of this convergence,” added the VC.
9 toppers have been assigned teaching jobs in government degree colleges, informed the VC. More such toppers will be engaged in teaching @ minimum of 15,000 rupees to a maximum of 25,000 rupees.
On the outsourcing services here, VC said, “Around 70 guards have been sent in by the outsource agency. There is a rider for the computer operator. No compromise with the efficiency and productivity of a computer operator, and if the outsource agency tries to push a poor hand of computer operators, I have asked for their immediate dismissal and exit from this university. The outsource agency must keep in mind that incompetence in computer operation will not be brooked by the university. The outsource agency claims to have taken the test for it, but everyone knows how such tests are conducted.”

Transparency, Policing Concerns and Infrastructure Plans
About the hullabaloo over the ‘failure’ of 30 MBBS students of the 2022 batch, he said, “Things have been taken into account. There will be no repeat of such a situation. I am told only 8 remain plucked, while 22 out of 30 stand passed now.”
Right through the press conference the VC got in the university Controller of Examinations Dr Ajit Seth through the PRO Dr Vinita Dixit, asking Seth ‘Such a goof up in tabulation of marks of the examinees would not occur again’ to which Seth confidently said, “I assure it won’t be a repeat and it happened just because a new outsource agency was doing this tabulation for the first time and it created a mess.”
This VC hardly hesitates in calling the concerned officers to sit in the press conference and face the barrage of questions from the mediapersons. He has never shown any cover-up for any error or wrong, as he repeatedly asserted,” I am not the one to hide my face. I take things in my stride. I don’t hide. I believe in real-time transparency.”
The VC, taking a pot shot at the district police, said, “I live alone in such a vast area. Here, roads crisscross. The university has been asking for a police chowki but in vain. I don’t know if 2026 will be any different from 2025 when the university’s request for police chowki remained grounded as ever.”
A placement cell will be set up in the Professional Studies Institute. A 200 bed girl’s hostel is to come up. The government has allocated 35 crore rupees for the Degree college at Balumath, while allocation for funds for a similar Degree college at Paton is awaited. Paton is the segment of the Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore’s assembly constituency.

About allegations of his partiality in opening a portal for the government degree colleges denying admission access to the affiliated colleges, the VC said, “The university did this. The government degree colleges are starved of admissions while the affiliated colleges are brimming with admissions. It’s a great imbalance. I am not the one to find degree colleges starved of admissions. From 2026, we will close down admissions by September 30.”
About the convocation, Dr Singh said, “It was ‘theek thaak’. I had to do this in the shortest time. I believe your people too don’t disagree with me that the convocation ceremony was a success.”
