Former Ranchi University Pro-Vice Chancellor VP Sharan passes away

Ranchi, Dec. 25: Former Vice-Chancellor of Ranchi University, educationist and senior journalist Prof (Dr) Ved Prakash Sharan has passed away. The 80-year-old Dr Sharan breathed his last at 3 am on Wednesday at the Curesta Hospital in Ranchi.

According to reports, Dr Sharan was suffering from a kidney-related illness and had been undergoing treatment for a long time. The news of the former Vice-Chancellor’s death has sent a wave of grief through the journalism, education, and political circles.

Meanwhile, the Ranchi Press Club has expressed its deepest condolences on the passing of Professor (Dr.) Ved Prakash Sharan, one of the founding members of the Ranchi Press Club.

His last rites are expected to be held on Friday at 11 AM. His mortal remains will be kept at the Ranchi Press Club premises for a short time for people to pay their last respects.

Minister Deepika Pandey Singh expresses condolences

Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh has expressed her condolences on the death of Prof. Sharan. She wrote on her X handle that the news of the demise of senior journalist, educationist and former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University, Prof. Dr. Ved Prakash Sharan, is extremely sad. His contribution to journalism, education and public life will remain unforgettable. May God grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. Humble tribute.

Dr Sharan’s contribution to education, journalism and politics is unforgettable

Prof (Dr) Ved Prakash Sharan had a very rich academic life. He held important responsibilities as Pro-Vice Chancellor at Ranchi University. Before that, he was the Head of the Political Science Department at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. He also served as the director of the college’s journalism department for a long time.

Prof. Sharan’s contribution to the field of journalism was also remarkable. He was actively involved in journalism for over three decades and was associated with the prestigious newspaper The Statesman for a long period.

He also played an active role in the political arena and served as the former chief spokesperson of the Jharkhand state unit of the Congress party. His demise is considered an irreparable loss to the intellectual, academic, and journalistic communities of Jharkhand.
