New Delhi, Dec 25: In a significant step towards linguistic inclusion, President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday unveiled the Santhali language version of the Constitution of India at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Constitution has been published in the Ol Chiki script, enabling Santhali-speaking communities to access and understand the country’s supreme law in their own language.

The President said the development was a moment of pride for the Santhali community, as it strengthens their connection with constitutional values and democratic rights. She noted that the availability of the Constitution in Santhali would empower people to engage more deeply with its principles.

The release assumes added significance as the country marks 100 years of the Ol Chiki script this year. The President appreciated the Union Ministry of Law and Justice for bringing out the Santhali edition of the Constitution during the centenary year of the script.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal were among the dignitaries present at the event.

Santhali, one of India’s oldest living languages, was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution through the 92nd Constitutional Amendment Act of 2003. The language is widely spoken by tribal communities across Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar.
