Jharkhand News: DPS Group of Education wins Chaibasa chess league

 

Ranchi, Dec 29: DPS Group of Education emerged as the champion of the 3rd Sitaram Rungta Chess League Championship, organized by the West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA) at Rungta Garden, Chaibasa.

Competing against 10 teams in the league, DPS Group of Education secured the highest 16 points across 10 rounds, earning the championship trophy and a cash prize of ₹15,000.

Mudra Hospital finished as runners-up with 14 points, receiving a trophy and ₹11,000, while Beyond Temptation claimed third place with 11 points.

WSDCA General Secretary Basant Khandelwal explained that the tournament consisted of 10 rounds, with five rounds played on a rapid basis (10 minutes plus 5 seconds per move) and the remaining five on blitz format (3 minutes plus 2 seconds per move).

In the individual category, Viswajeet Chatterjee, with 10 points, was named the best player on Board No.1, followed by Manish Sharma, Basant Khandelwal, Tanisk Kumar, and Rajesh Kumar Kamal Debnath, who ranked second to sixth respectively.

In the women’s category, Samridhi Priya was declared the best player on Board No.1 and was awarded a cash prize of ₹1,100.

The championship was inaugurated by West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Chandan Kumar, with Deputy Development Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Meena as the guest of honour. Probationary IAS officer Sidhant Kumar and WSDCA President Mukund Rungta were also present at the event.
