Jamshedpur, Jan 2: Jharkhand began the New Year with mild winter weather, marked by clear skies, pleasant daytime temperatures and cold mornings, according to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi.

Day temperatures above normal, nights remain cool

Weather data recorded at 10 am on Friday showed that maximum temperatures across Jharkhand remained above normal at most places, while minimum temperatures stayed low but comfortable. Importantly, no cold wave conditions were reported anywhere in the state during the past 24 hours.

Ranchi, Jamshedpur record pleasant winter weather

In the state capital, Ranchi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.2°C, slightly above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 9.4°C.

Jamshedpur weather remained warmer during the day, with a maximum temperature of 26.4°C. The minimum temperature of 11.6°C indicated a gradual easing of winter chill in the Kolhan region.

Chaibasa, Daltonganj among warmer locations

Among major weather stations in Jharkhand, Chaibasa emerged as one of the warmest places with a daytime high of 27.0°C. Daltonganj also recorded a similar maximum temperature of 26.4°C, while Bokaro Thermal remained relatively cooler at 24.5°C during the day.

Dry weather continues across Jharkhand

The IMD confirmed that no rainfall was recorded anywhere in Jharkhand during the past 24 hours, keeping weather conditions dry and stable across the state.

The highest maximum temperature was observed at the Baharagora Automated Weather Station (AWS) in East Singhbhum at 27.2°C. Meanwhile, Gumla reported the lowest minimum temperature of 6.4°C, making it the coldest place in Jharkhand on Friday morning.

The IMD Ranchi also reported foggy conditions at isolated locations. Visibility dropped to 600 metres at Deoghar airport, while Jamshedpur witnessed reduced visibility of around 700 metres during the early morning hours. However, no cold wave alerts were issued.

AWS data confirms stable winter pattern

Data from Automated Weather Stations (AWS) further confirmed mild winter conditions, with maximum temperatures ranging between 23°C and 27°C across districts such as Hazaribagh, Koderma, Khunti, Latehar, Pakur and Saraikela.

Night temperatures remained cool but stayed above critical cold wave thresholds, offering comfortable winter conditions.

Meteorologists said the current weather pattern reflects a stable winter phase in Jharkhand, characterised by sunny afternoons and crisp mornings. Similar conditions are expected to continue over the next few days, unless affected by western disturbances.

For now, residents can enjoy pleasant winter weather in Jharkhand, with bright sunshine during the day and gentle cold at night, making it an ideal start to January.
