Dhanbad pays tribute to martyr SP Randhir Verma

Dhanbad, January 3: Dhanbad on Saturday remembered martyr Superintendent of Police (SP) Randhir Prasad Verma on his 35th martyrdom day, with people from all walks of life paying rich tributes to the brave police officer.

Condolence Meeting at Randhir Verma Chowk

People’s representatives, district and police administration officials, lawyers, and citizens gathered at Randhir Verma Chowk near Court More for a condolence meeting. Floral tributes were offered to the life-size statue of martyr Randhir Prasad Verma, and speakers recalled his courage and sacrifice.

DC Says Youth Should Draw Inspiration

Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aditya Ranjan paid homage and said that the sacrifice of martyr Randhir Prasad Verma will always be remembered. He said that the youth should draw inspiration from his life and dedication. His martyrdom proved that service to the nation is the highest duty, he added.

Police Officers Remember His Bravery

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, City SP Ritvik Srivastava, DSP (Law & Order) Naushad Alam, and other police officers also paid floral tributes at the statue.

The SSP said that the martyrdom day of Randhir Prasad Verma continues to inspire police personnel. Even after 35 years, the people of Dhanbad remember him with deep respect, he said.

He added that police officers learn from martyr Randhir Verma how to perform their duties with honour and dedication, irrespective of challenges. He also appealed to the youth to contribute positively towards the nation.

Prof. Rita Verma Thanks District Administration

Former Union Minister and four-time Dhanbad MP Prof. Rita Verma, wife of late Randhir Prasad Verma, said that the people of Dhanbad remember the martyr with love and respect. She thanked the district administration for its cooperation in organising the condolence meeting.

Dhanbad MP Dhulu Mahato also paid floral tributes to martyr Randhir Prasad Verma on the occasion.

Remembering the Sacrifice

On January 3, 1991, SP Randhir Prasad Verma was martyred while foiling a bank robbery by Khalistani terrorists at the Bank of India’s Hirapur branch in Dhanbad. He fought alone and killed five terrorists.

For his exceptional bravery, the President of India posthumously honoured him with the country’s highest gallantry award, the Ashok Chakra.
