Dhanbad, Jan 9: A 26-year-old youth was crushed to death on the spot after a Hyva truck hit his motorcycle on the inter-state GT Road (NH-2) near Narrow More, under Govindpur police station, about 15 km from the district headquarters, on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Asgar Ansari, a resident of Lahardih under Govindpur police station.

Govindpur police station officer-in-charge Vishnu Kant said the incident occurred at around 8.30 am. The Hyva truck ran over the bike rider, killing him instantly. The driver fled the spot after the accident, he added.

Locals block road, seek arrest and compensation

Following the incident, angry residents blocked the road in protest, demanding the arrest of the Hyva driver and compensation for the victim’s family.

Police reached the spot promptly and cleared the traffic blockade, restoring normal movement on the highway.
