Ranchi, January 9: The Jharkhand Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, on January 9, 2026, approved a major proposal to strengthen policing and public safety by sanctioning ₹134 crore for the installation of CCTV cameras across the state. As part of the decision, 8,854 CCTV cameras will be installed in 606 police stations under a state-funded scheme.
The decision follows directions of the Supreme Court of India and is based on a Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by JAP-IT. The move is aimed at enhancing police accountability, crime monitoring, and transparency across Jharkhand.
CCTV Project to Boost Policing and Surveillance
The CCTV installation project was approved in compliance with Supreme Court judgments passed in December 2020 and March 2021. Officials said the initiative will significantly improve law enforcement efficiency, evidence collection, and monitoring of police station functioning, making Jharkhand’s policing system more technology-driven.
Big Push for Roads and Infrastructure
Along with the CCTV decision, the Cabinet approved several major road and infrastructure projects. Administrative approval was granted for the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Bajrha village in Palamu district at a cost of over ₹101 crore, under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
The Cabinet also cleared the widening and strengthening of the Jaina Morh–Phusro road (MDR-077) and approved improvement work on the Choparan–Chatra Road and multiple other road projects across Bokaro, Chatra, and Palamu, reinforcing the government’s focus on connectivity and transport infrastructure.
Welfare, Pension and Service Regularisation Decisions
Several decisions related to employee welfare and pensions were also approved. The Cabinet allowed the addition of daily wage service periods to regular service for pension benefits in multiple cases, following Jharkhand High Court orders. The services of several retired employees were regularised, ensuring long-pending financial and pensionary benefits.
The Cabinet also approved amendments to the State Government Employees Health Insurance Scheme and modifications to rules under the Jharkhand Treasury Code, 2016.
Education, Law and Administrative Reforms
The Cabinet cleared the restructuring of academic and non-academic posts at Jamshedpur Women’s University and Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University. It also approved the extension of the Jharkhand State Law Commission’s tenure till November 2027 and the creation of posts for the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Tribal University, Jamshedpur.
Approval was also granted for framing the Netarhat Residential School Management and Operation Rules, 2026, aimed at improving governance of the prestigious institution.
GST Amendment, Dairy Plant and Global Engagement
The Cabinet approved the promulgation of the Jharkhand GST (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, aligning state law with recent changes in central GST legislation. It also cleared the establishment of a 50 TLPD dairy plant in Seraikela-Kharsawan district through the Jharkhand Milk Federation.
Additionally, a high-level delegation led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren was approved to attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, along with official engagements in London.
Assembly Session Approved
The Cabinet approved convening the Fifth (Budget) Session of the Sixth Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from February 18 to March 19, 2026, setting the stage for key financial and policy discussions.
