Ranchi, February 11: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday said members of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly will no longer need to stay late at night during Assembly sessions to submit questions and complete paperwork, as legislative work shifts to a digital platform under the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA).
The Chief Minister was addressing a training and tablet distribution programme organised under the NeVA project during the Fifth (Budget) Session-2026 of the Sixth Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. On the occasion, he also formally inaugurated the NeVA Service Centre in the Assembly premises.
New Chapter in Assembly’s Functioning
Calling it a new chapter in the functioning of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, Hemant Soren said the NeVA Service Centre will make legislative processes simpler, faster and paperless.
He said that through the National e-Vidhan Application, members will be able to submit questions and complete other legislative tasks digitally and on time. “Members will no longer need to come late at night during the Assembly session to submit questions and other paperwork,” he said, adding that the move would also ease the burden on Assembly staff.
Legislative Work to Go Paperless
The Chief Minister said that around 20 state legislatures in the country have already started conducting legislative work digitally through the NeVA platform.
He expressed satisfaction that members of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly are now being trained on various aspects of the application and are being provided tablets to facilitate digital functioning. Several tasks in the upcoming Assembly sessions will be carried out through the NeVA system.
Highlighting the growing role of technology in daily life, he noted that people now perform many official tasks, including banking, through mobile phones.
Digitisation to Improve Coordination
Hemant Soren said that 25 years have passed since the formation of Jharkhand, and the state is steadily moving forward. He credited the efforts of Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato for steering the House towards digitisation and paperless functioning.
He said improved digital communication would enhance coordination among members and reduce difficulties caused earlier due to a lack of proper coordination. The use of the NeVA platform will reduce paperwork and help speed up legislative processes.
Training and Cybersecurity Awareness
The Chief Minister acknowledged that adopting any digital application comes with challenges. In view of this, training sessions have been organised for members to familiarise them with the NeVA platform.
He pointed out that cybercrime is a current challenge and stressed the importance of safeguarding members’ questions and documents from tampering. Awareness about NeVA’s security features is essential to ensure smooth and secure functioning, he added.
On the occasion, tablets were distributed to all ministers and MLAs by Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto and Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Several ministers, MLAs, officers and Assembly staff were present at the programme.
