Jamshedpur, April 7: Frustration over persistent train delays at Tatanagar Railway Station spilt onto the streets as passengers, led by JD(U) MLA Saryu Roy, staged a one-day dharna near the station’s main entrance.
Members of the Marwari community and several social organisations joined the protest in large numbers, voicing growing anger against the railway administration.
Passengers Flag Chronic Delays
Speakers at the protest said that most passenger trains passing through Tatanagar have been running late regularly, a problem that has worsened in recent years.
The delays are causing serious inconvenience, particularly for working professionals, students, and patients, who are struggling to reach their destinations on time.

Saryu Roy Questions Railway Functioning
MLA Saryu Roy raised concerns over the railway’s operational efficiency, pointing out that trains slow down significantly after entering the Chakradharpur division, leading to avoidable delays.
He alleged lapses in train management and called for immediate corrective steps. Indirectly targeting railway officials, Roy said those in charge must be more sensitive to passenger concerns.
He also questioned the role of the Senior DCM, warning that without accountable leadership, improvements would remain unlikely.
Warning of Bigger Protest
Roy stressed that train delays are not minor technical issues but affect the daily lives of thousands, disrupting work, education, and healthcare. He urged the railways to prioritise punctuality and streamline operations.
Representatives of various social groups echoed his concerns and criticised the railways for failing to provide reliable services. They warned that if the situation does not improve soon, the protest could intensify.
The dharna ended peacefully, but it sent a strong message that passenger grievances can no longer be ignored. Protesters expressed hope that the railway administration would take prompt action to improve services and provide relief to commuters.
