Jharkhand: 50 Kg ganja seized in Baharagora, 2 arrested in interstate drug racket

Jamshedpur, April 13: In a major crackdown on organised drug trafficking, Baharagora police have busted an interstate ganja smuggling racket, seizing 50 kg of contraband and arresting two key operatives.

The estimated value of the seized narcotics is around Rs 25 lakh. The police also confiscated an SUV used for transportation.

Operation based on intelligence inputs

The action followed credible intelligence about a narcotics consignment moving from Odisha to Bihar through the Baharagora corridor, which is emerging as a key route for interstate smuggling.

Accused part of larger interstate network

During the drive, a suspicious vehicle was intercepted. A search conducted under the NDPS Act, in the presence of a magistrate, led to the recovery of 25 tightly packed bundles hidden in two plastic sacks in the boot, weighing 50 kg.

The arrested accused have been identified as Bhim Yadav and Raj Kumar Pal. Preliminary investigation suggests the consignment originated from Odisha’s Barakul region and was meant for distribution in Bihar.

Officials said the seizure could help dismantle a larger interstate narcotics network. Digital devices and cash recovered from the accused are being examined for further leads.

Police sources indicated that more arrests are likely as the investigation continues, focusing on identifying financiers, handlers, and distributors involved in the racket.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to curbing drug trafficking and have stepped up surveillance along known transit routes.
