Youth critical after coming in contact with high-voltage wire at Tatanagar rly station

 Jamshedpur, May 6: A youth sustained critical burn injuries after allegedly coming in contact with an overhead high-voltage electric wire while climbing a stationary freight train at Tatanagar Railway Station late on Wednesday night.

The incident took place around 11:07 pm at Platform No. 3 of the busy railway junction, triggering panic among passengers and railway staff.

According to eyewitnesses, the youth suddenly climbed atop the goods train and was immediately struck by the overhead electric line. The impact left him severely injured with serious burn wounds.

Passengers and railway employees immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and station authorities, who rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Youth Referred to MGM Hospital After Initial Treatment

The injured youth was first taken to the railway hospital with the help of a Tata Life ambulance. Considering the seriousness of his condition, doctors later referred him to MGM Hospital for advanced treatment.

The incident briefly disrupted normal activities at Tatanagar station as crowds gathered during the emergency response operation.

CCTV Footage Being Scanned, Identity Yet to Be Established

Railway officials have initiated an investigation into the incident and are scanning CCTV footage to determine how the youth accessed the freight train and what led to the dangerous act.

Sources said the youth may have been suffering from mental distress, although officials have not yet confirmed this. Authorities are also trying to establish his identity and contact his family members.

Railways Issue Safety Warning Over Overhead Electric Wires

Following the incident, railway authorities reiterated safety advisories, warning passengers against climbing trains or entering restricted areas in electrified sections.

Officials said overhead electric lines carry extremely high voltage and can prove instantly fatal even without direct physical contact in certain situations.

Tatanagar Railway Station, one of the busiest railway hubs in Jharkhand, witnesses heavy passenger and freight movement every day, making strict adherence to railway safety norms essential.
