THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK
Dhanbad, May 12: Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Hemant Soren government, alleging a complete collapse of law and order in Jharkhand and accusing the administration of patronising criminals and mafia networks.
Addressing a press conference in Dhanbad, the BJP leader claimed that the state’s law and order situation had reached a “critical juncture” and alleged the existence of a nexus involving the police, gangsters, and the mafia.
‘Law and Order Deliberately Undermined’
“Jharkhand’s law and order has not deteriorated on its own; it has been deliberately undermined,” Marandi said.

He alleged that the common people had lost faith in the government and the police administration.
“When tainted officers are appointed to key posts in districts and across the state, how can one expect better law and order?” he asked.
Taking aim at the Dhanbad SSP, Marandi said there was an ongoing competition between “goons in uniform” and “goons out of uniform” to expose each other’s wrongdoing, while the government remained a “mute spectator.”
“The general public and the business community are distressed. How can peace and normalcy be restored in such a situation?” he said.
Marandi Demands NIA Probe
Marandi said he had written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren four days ago regarding the deteriorating law and order situation.
Referring to a video allegedly released by gangster Prince Khan, the BJP leader claimed that illegal weapons were being smuggled into the region from Pakistan through Punjab and alleged the involvement of a criminal-terrorist-police nexus.
“This is not merely a case of interstate gangs. It is linked to international criminal syndicates,” he alleged.
He further claimed that Rahul Singh, who allegedly supplied shooters to Prince Khan, had been provided police bodyguards and granted an arms licence.

“The Hemant Soren government is incapable of investigating these matters. The case should be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Only then will the truth come out,” Marandi said.
Questions Raised Over Police Appointments
The BJP leader also questioned the appointment of senior police officers in the state.
He alleged that ACB chief Priya Dubey was facing legal cases and that her assets had been attached in connection with pending proceedings.
Marandi further referred to the alleged liquor scam during the tenure of former DGP Anurag Gupta, claiming that 17 to 18 accused persons secured default bail because the government and police failed to file charge sheets on time.
“The state has effectively been handed over to the police, goons, and the mafia. Land, coal, stone, and sand are being looted openly while the government remains a silent spectator,” he alleged.
Hemant Government Targeted Over DGP Appointments
Marandi also criticised the Hemant Soren government over the appointment and extension of service of former DGP Anurag Gupta and senior officer Tadasha Mishra.
He alleged that Anurag Gupta was appointed DGP “illegally” despite pending cases against him and after remaining under suspension for two years.
He further claimed that Tadasha Mishra was first appointed as DG in-charge and later promoted to the full DG rank by bypassing established norms. He also questioned the extension of her service beyond retirement.
“If the government itself appoints such individuals and grants them extensions in violation of rules, how can law and order be maintained?” Marandi asked.
Dhanbad MP Dhullu Mahto was also present during the press conference.
